VESSEL SAFETY CHECKS (VSC)
Boaters always feel
good seeing their boat displaying the
VSC "Seal of Safety," which indicates that their boat has met
all federal, state, and Coast Guard Auxiliary safety standards.
The
U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary offers free boat safety checks to boaters who wish
to be sure that their boats meet all federal
and state safety requirements.
The Vessel
Examiners who perform these checks are specially trained Auxiliarists who are
kept informed of the latest legal requirements for boaters. Vessel Examiners
have no legal authority - their goal is to prevent boaters from getting
equipment-related citations and to prevent safety-related accidents. Not
only is it a safety check, but it also is designed to help educate the
recreational boater on Federal and local regulations as well as other matters which may
affect safety.
Auxiliarists who are qualified as Vessel Examiners
conduct VSCs regularly at various locations around South Florida.
These include marinas, launching ramps, boat and yacht clubs. These
VSCs are provided to all boat owners who wish to have a free, courtesy
check of their boat's safety equipment.
Vessel
Safety Checks are performed on standard
powerboats and sailboats.
Personal
Watercraft Safety Checks are performed
on personal watercraft .
