AuxData User Account Changes

Greetings:

Please pass the contents of this message down your “chain” to ensure that all members are aware and can take appropriate steps to make all our lives easier.

For security reasons, when an AuxData User has not logged on for 6 months their logon account will be automatically deleted by OSC.  When that occurs they will have to request and be given a new account.  In the very near future the 6-month period will be changed to 3 months.

The newly operative phrase for AuxData accounts is:  “Use it or Lose it!”

"Sea Partners"

The "Sea Partners" program is an opportunity for Auxiliarists to instruct and inform 2nd thru 8th graders and even High School students about the importance of the marine environment and how it is affected by our actions. If anyone is interested in this excellent program contact the Division SO MS Mark Menzanno.

The Sea Partners Program was developed in 1994 to address the need to educate the public and raise awareness of the environmental deterioration of our seas and waterways. Sea Partners has traditionally been conducted by reserve members from the Marine Safety Offices. Auxiliarists in many areas have been involved from the beginning of the program. One of the new PQS’s that will qualify Auxiliarists for the Auxiliary Marine Safety Insignia is Environmental Education Specialist – in other words – Sea Partners. Sea Partners is a challenging, exciting, and rewarding program to participate in. It is of vital importance and can also be a lot of fun. Public education, the goal of the Sea Partners program, is something with which many Auxiliarists are already actively involved. It is a natural progression to add environmental protection topics to our existing public education activities. Water is finite. We cannot manufacture more than what currently exists.

"OPR"
Operation Patriot Readiness

4 December 2003

Dear Commodore,

We are pleased to announce some meaningful deliverables for OPR III implementation.  First off, there is a new OPR web site.  Please have a look and let us know what you think.  The address is www.uscgaux.org/~opr/ The site contains much information about OPR and also acts as a ‘portal’ to link with the efforts of all Auxiliary Departments, the Coast Guard and other organizations which have a stake in MHLS issues.

We would ask you to provide a link to the OPR site from your District, Division and Flotilla sites.

Starting on Dec. 15th and continuing for a month, the ‘banner’ on the What’s New page of the Auxiliary web site, will feature OPR and the new web site.  It will start with a message from NACO, shift right into a little contest we will be having and then directly into the new site.

The ‘little contest’ is to involve the membership in creating a really professional logo/icon for our OPR efforts.  The contest starts now and ends at 2400 on January 15, 2004.  You will find the contest rules under the question mark on the OPR site home page.  The BIG rule is that the prize for the winner is $200!  Please give this your widest and most enthusiastic endorsement.  It is a great opportunity for some of our more graphically skilled members to have a deep involvement in one of our top programs – OPR.  In addition, it will encourage many members to learn more about OPR and, hopefully start seeking ways to participate.

As you browse through the web site you will see tools, such as AUXPAL planning and execution, Patrol and Personnel Augmentation Planning Guides and Disaster Response/Readiness Exercises.  Please use all of your creative distribution skills to get the OPR message, and the tools, to the Flotilla and member level.

We are no longer an organization that is just ‘at the ready’.  OPR provides the blueprint, and many of the tools, that will enable the Auxiliary, working closely with the Coast Guard, to lead the way in joint planning, execution and deployment of patrols and RBS activity.  It is our opportunity to make America a safer place!  I know you join Bill and me in support of this effort.

Best Regards,

Gene

Security Checks

From: Crawley, Kevin CDR
Subject: RE: Letting You Know What Is Out There
Importance: High

Please post the following on the web sites in the most likely place to be seen. I want to squelch all rumors.

"There are a lot of rumors circulating in regards to the forthcoming security checks. Disregard all rumors as that is exactly what they are until official policy has been issued. The All Coast Guard message (ALCOAST) will be coming out in the very near future outlining the policy. I am currently drafting a D7 Directive that will outline our processes and  procedures for compliance with that policy. These are not, I repeat not, finalized, nor will they be until the ALCOAST comes out and my directive is issued. Nobody should be taking any overt action towards completing fingerprint cards or SF-86s, nor should they be telling folks how it's going to work. I am not entertaining any questions until policy has been issued.

After policy is issued, you may ask questions via the Auxiliary Chain as outlined in Directive AD 03.1."
